The Great T-Shirt Debacle
So at Trillies we always have souvenir t-shirts that are wildly popular with everyone especially in the last couple of years and we wanted to do them again this year. So we picked the colour for the shirts, talked to our printers, I did the puppy dog eyes to my artist and managed to get him to do a design for us and then kinda put it out of my mind until my printer said.. (and i'm slightly paraphrasing here :P)
"heeeeey any idea on when I can get the artwork.. I need it soon.."
Oh right.. gotta get on that.. whoops...
So I talked to my artist and confirmed when he'd have it done and completely forgot to tell him what colour we had decided on for the actual t-shirt.. Now to the average non artisty type person.. this doesn't seem like a big deal.. but I should have known better. As a graphic artist / photographer I know exactly why colours are important to know before you start the work. Its about the use of negative space, shadowing, giving "oomph" to certain parts without raising the costs of too many screens to make the one design. (each colour for a t-shirt is a screen and each screen costs extra) My artist has made many t-shirt designs and figured we'd be doing the same thing we've done in the past.. oops.. I'm a bad bad bad Autocrat. sigh.
Needless to say he went to submit the work to my printer .. my printer let him know it was a green t-shirt and drama proceeded to happen. Not his fault.. as I said the colour effects the work directly and I screwed up.. I'd be upset too.
Now I don't care if the t-shirts are black or green I just want to make sure people like the t-shirts and try to keep the cost to the canton as low as possible. And I understand the green argument of "we've done black.. lets do something different" but then I also see the figures of t-shirt sales from previous years and know for a fact black sells. And to me.. not only am I one of the Autocrats but I'm also the Canton Seneschal (local group president for those that don't know what that is) so I've got the double responsibility of watching how canton money is being spent. So I decided to be a bit democratic about it and put it to you guys.. the populace of Ealdormere... to see which is the more popular colour. After all it'll be you guys that buy the shirts and I'd want you to have what you want. Hopefully this solves itself out and we can continue to move on with other things that need our attention. I guess you'll find out which t-shirt wins at the event itself :) (hopefully I know before then hehe)
The poll is located on the "I live in Ealdormere" facebook page. Go vote if you'd like but its closing soon. (gotta get the t-shirts made!)
