That's how Lysele and I felt today as we left the Trillies site after a morning visit to work on the layout. We enlisted our very own Hans & Petra of house Marchmount to help us visualize the site and to give us some pointers.. as they have done layouts.. several times before.
(Have I mentioned that the people in my Canton are uber helpful and super awesome? If I have.. good.. I'm saying it again.. cause I can.. and I really do mean it. I'm so appreciative of the wealth of knowledge, talent and experience that floats around Ard Chreag. It really is just mind blowingly awesome. Just sayin'!)
So YAY.. we have survey flags laid out and on paper we have the layout that looks like it'll be a good and proper campground. Sometimes it's really hard to visualize a big empty field with all the canvas and other stuff people need. But that part is done! *happy dance..* (again I don't do those on request.. :P)
The t-shirts have been ordered and will look absolutely fantastic. Our talented artist has out done himself and I'm happy and excited for you all to see them... (no.. i'm not releasing the design early.. where's the fun in that!?)
Still gotta few things to hash out regarding our super secret project but even that is coming together really nicely and i'm stoked about it. Final decisions on that stuff will be made tomorrow and then its in motion.. omg omg omg. I sooooo can't wait :D
Ok so I also said I'd use this blog to kinda figure out what I've learnt along the way. So I'm going to share with you all a few things that I have gleamed so far....
- Superior people skills are needed. If you think you have people skills work on them some more cause it won't be enough. You also have to have the knowledge and wherewithal to acknowledge the fact you will NOT please everyone all the time. In fact there will ALWAYS be someone upset with you. Usually when stuff like this comes up my attitude is .. mind over matter.. I don't mind.. xx doesn't matter. That's not the way I think when it comes to upset Trillies people. Everything matters and everyone's opinions matter and are heard. Unfortunately, We, as autocrats, can only go with what we feel is right for the event. which leads to hard feelings at times. The only advice I can give to combat this and I've learnt this lesson the hard way.. is to be as open and honest with people as you can. I'm being extremely transparent with what we are doing for Trillies, we are asking for help when we need it and if we have to say no to someone we explain why and hope they understand. It doesn't always work that way but I've done my part to the best of my abilities and hopefully things work out in the end.
- Schedules! Keeping one eye on the calender is a must. At least for me it is. I'm able to see how many days we have to do X project or how far behind we are on Y project.. this way we can prioritize things that need doing. Also if you are like me and suck at staying on time with things.. make your partner in crime someone that is excellent at staying on top of time control. You will need it. Trust me!
- Lists!! Now this could just be me but I have lists for everything that needs to be done, and lists for things that have been done and lists for materials needed etc etc etc... basically I'm a list person. I need to see it in front of me to be able to keep it straight in my head. I like to call it chaotic organization. I know what my lists all mean .. no one else probably does but I do.. and as long as the stuff on those lists get done.. I'm good :P They keep me focused. and nothing feels better than being able to cross things off the list.
Ok I think thats enough for now.. I have some viking bling to make.. \o/
