I've been a bit distracted lately and haven't had a chance to update the blog but hey not a heck of a lot was going on for Trillies lately anyway. I was so busy making a pirate look pretty for Crown and working lots at my day job that well.. Trillies got a bit sidelined. But now the hat is back on and all systems are a go with getting things done.
The super not so secret project gets finished this weekend.. YAY! The shower stalls get built the day after Pikeman's. (if you are close by and want to help out we'll be at the site June 8th from 10am on... just fyi! :P)
I managed to find another source of free building wood (more pallets) so that makes life a little easier when looking at the budget we had set. It's always a fun balance trying to get everything we need and stay within the budget that was set.
People always say.. "well the site is scadian so I'm sure it was free" and yes the land for the entirety of the event has been donated.. but what some people don't realize that it actually costs more to have an event on land that isn't already set up, amenity wise, to to hold that many people. Porta Potties are expensive, water is expensive, good lord.. wood is expensive and all the other little things that will make the site perfect for everyone all costs extra. Sites that are already set up include the costs for bathrooms and stuff in their contract and for the most part it works out in favour of the contracted sites. Free site's also lead to more work trying to organize all the amenities to go on an open field. Lysele has been a truly amazing force in getting all this sorted out for us all. I think everyone shall be happy with the amenities we are providing.
The mini puppy playground (and by puppy I mean any age fuzzy canine beast of war that shall be joining us) is a go. It's not going to be a huge area but it'll be enough to let our fuzzy friends off their leads and get to know one another a little better. I do want to remind all dog owners that the fuzzies will need to be supervised at all times while in the park. It is a temporary structure so you need to keep one eye on your friend at all times just in case they try to escape the park. This is a first time trial puppy park for our event and if it goes well hopefully we will see it appear at other events or bring it back to Trillies next year.
We've met with all our marshal's and dept heads to make sure that everything is on track and so far.. (knocking on wood here folks!) everything is looking great. I'm sure there will be some snafu's along the way but so far things are ok and moving along at a good clip.
So what do I think my Trillies experience has taught me this time around? I'd have to say trust the people you have helping you, You choose them for a reason. Let them do what they need to do and don't micromanage them. Give strong deadlines so people have an idea of when you need things by but also be a tad flexible. Also always keep an eye on that budget. The event is something that funds the canton's fight practice and allows us to host other events and gives us something to donate to the barony or kingdom as needed. I'd hate to see any of our efforts in helping out the barony or kingdom or lose our fight practice because we couldn't stay on budget.
So I guess that's it for now. I'm guessing more blogs will be happening now that more stuff is happening.
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings
ps. OoOoOo ya before I forget.. on the Saturday of the event.. a foreign time travelling machine carrying all sorts of yummy cold treats will be hanging around for a while to help us cool down. "I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!" :D
